Ocean Shores- Sand Castle Building

We went to Ocean Shores the last weekend of June & they were having their annual sand castle building contest. We had never seen this done before so it was really cool to watch them create these pieces of art. I tried to post some pictures from start to finish so you could see how they are created...

This one is part of a "Scary Room" display. Reminded us of Monster's Inc. There is an eye ball coming out of the door.

This was a Rain Forest display....there is a plant growing around the face. The detail was amazing.

This is another picture from the "Scary Room" display. It was incredible how much emotion you could see in these sand castles.

This is how they start them. They make molds with wood & fill them with very wet sand. They let the sand dry for a while then they have a block to work with. They continue to mist them to keep them wet as they carve away the designs.

More cool carving....

More crates. The one in the middle (under the flags) was the door with the eye ball (shown above).
They took big bulldozers & made these HUGE holes in the beach. The sand that came out of the hole is what they used to create the sand castles. These huge holes then filled up with water so the artists could get water out of the holes VS getting it from the Ocean. It was very cool to see these pieces created!
